Our Story

Our Founder, Josh Bird, turned the challenges he faced as a franchisee owner into a solution now trusted by thousands of restaurants, brands, and businesses worldwide.

 On New Year’s Eve 2010, Josh encountered his biggest challenge yet: a broken freezer unit that ruined over $10,000 worth of food stock in just a few hours.

 This was the breaking point in a series of costly hurdles he had faced while trying to run his small business. Josh knew he wasn’t alone—other franchisees, restaurant groups, and multi-location operators were struggling with the same problems.

 Determined to create a better way, Josh developed software to improve employee accountability, streamline digital food safety compliance, and boost team performance. That vision became Jolt Software, purpose-built to help restaurants, retail stores, entertainment venues, and deskless businesses of all kinds execute operations with confidence.

 Today, Jolt is proud to be part of the Digi International family and integrated into the SmartSense solution, expanding our mission to deliver smarter, safer, and more efficient operations across industries worldwide.
